How to Overcome Imposter Syndrome in Podcasting

Enjoying the show? Support it here.

Imposter syndrome is something almost every podcaster deals with at some point.

That feeling that you’re not experienced enough… that other creators know more than you… or that you shouldn’t really be the one talking about a topic.

And if you’re not careful, it can stop you from publishing altogether.

In this episode of One Minute Podcast Tips, I’m breaking down why imposter syndrome shows up, why it’s more common than you think, and - more importantly - how to move past it without waiting to feel “ready”.

You don’t need to be the ultimate expert to have a valuable podcast.

You just need to be helpful.

If you’ve ever hesitated to hit publish because you’re second-guessing yourself, this episode will help you reframe that thinking and keep moving forward.

Speaker:

Danny: Imposter syndrome is something a lot of podcasters deal with.

Speaker:

Danny: That feeling that you're not experienced enough, or that other people know more

Speaker:

Danny: than you, or that you shouldn't really be the one talking about this.

Speaker:

Danny: And it can hold you back. You might second-guess your ideas,

Speaker:

Danny: delay publishing, or avoid certain topics altogether.

Speaker:

Danny: The thing is, it doesn't really go away. Even experienced creators still feel

Speaker:

Danny: it. They've just learned not to let it stop them.

Speaker:

Danny: So instead of trying to get rid of it, it can help to reframe it.

Speaker:

Danny: Because feeling like this usually means you care about what you're putting out

Speaker:

Danny: and that's not a bad thing.

Speaker:

Danny: A more practical way to approach it is this.

Speaker:

Danny: Focus on being helpful, not authoritative. You don't need to be an expert in

Speaker:

Danny: everything. You just need to share what you know or what you're learning.

Speaker:

Danny: For example, instead of thinking who am I to talk about this,

Speaker:

Danny: you can shift it to this is what I've tried and here's what's worked for me.

Speaker:

Danny: That's still valuable and it's often more relatable because podcasting isn't

Speaker:

Danny: about having all the answers. It's about sharing useful ones.

Speaker:

Danny: So if imposter syndrome does show up, that's fine. Just don't let it decide

Speaker:

Danny: whether you hit publish.

Speaker:

Danny: Until the next time, happy podcasting.
