Danny:

If you're not using Reddit as a podcaster, you're missing out on some great opportunities. For example, it's a goldmine for topic ideas.

Just browse subreddits in your niche and you'll find questions people are asking, pain points they're ranting about, or just stuff they're genuinely curious about. That can give you content ideas for several months. You'll also find interesting and insightful conversations about listener behavior.

One thread I saw just recently was people sharing why they quit their favourite podcasts. The common theme? The show changed too much: so, too many ads, lost its original format or spark, and started chasing trends as opposed to making content for the listener. And that's the kind of insight you can actually use to avoid making the same kind of mistakes yourself. But it's not just about research.

Reddit's also great for building community.

Answer questions, join discussions, be helpful and not salesy, and you'll build trusting connections, which in turn can lead to more listeners for your podcast. Reddit's not just noise, it's information. It can really inform, so use it. Until the next time, happy podcasting.

Danny Brown

Danny Brown is the host of the award-winning One Minute Podcast Tips, the show that helps you be a better podcaster in just a minute a week. He's also hosted, and co-hosted, several other podcasts - if you called him a serial podcaster, you wouldn't be wrong! He's been in the podcasting space for over 10 years, and has the scars to prove it.

He's the Head of Podcaster Support and Experience at Captivate.fm, the world's only growth-oriented podcast hosting, distribution, analytics, and monetization platform for the serious indie podcaster.

He lives in beautiful Muskoka, Ontario, Canada with his wife and two kids, where he spends winters in front of a cozy fire and summers by the lake. Well, when he finds time away from podcasting, of course...
