Speaker:

One of the big talking points in podcasting at the minute is Apple's new support

Speaker:

for video podcasting using HLS.

Speaker:

And because of that, one of the big questions is, should you be using it?

Speaker:

And the honest answer is, it depends on your podcast.

Speaker:

And I know it depends, kind of a bit of a cop out, but it's true.

Speaker:

It really does depend on your podcast.

Speaker:

Because adding video can be a good move, but only if it actually fits what you're

Speaker:

doing. For some shows, it makes complete sense.

Speaker:

For example, if your podcast is interview-based or if you're already recording

Speaker:

video for platforms like YouTube, then making that available on Apple Podcasts

Speaker:

as well is a fairly easy win.

Speaker:

You're not creating something new, you're just using what you already have but

Speaker:

in another place your audience might be.

Speaker:

But if your podcast is audio first or you don't currently record video,

Speaker:

then this is where it's worth pausing for a second.

Speaker:

Because adding video isn't just a switch you flip, it changes how you record,

Speaker:

how you edit, your setup and your workflow. And if you're doing it just because

Speaker:

it's a new feature, there's a good chance it just becomes more work but without

Speaker:

much return. So here's a simple way to think about it.

Speaker:

Are you already creating video or planning to? And would your audience actually

Speaker:

benefit from watching instead of just listening?

Speaker:

If the answer is yes, then it's definitely worth exploring. If not,

Speaker:

you're probably better off continuing to focus on making your audio as strong as it can be.

Speaker:

Because new features come and go, but a clear, engaging podcast,

Speaker:

well, that's what keeps people listening.

Speaker:

Until the next time, happy podcasting.
